Jake Noble is the kind of person you would hope every person who is, or has been, in the service of our country would be. Unfortunately, he is also the victim of our corrupt political machine that pervades every niche of the intelligence service currently. My kind of author. My kind of hero. One person found this helpful. Along with all the action, which I loved, was a great story line. You could read this book independently or if you wanted, you could start with the first book that introduces Sam and explains how she worked with Jake before. Jake has to support his Mother and her fight against cancer.
He lives on his boat after being fired from the CIA. He receives a key and then a message that his close friend is missing in Mexico. Then there's the rest of the story. Read it, you won't be sorry! It's a good spy thriller with a compelling hero. However, the author wears his political convictions on his sleeve. Brace yourself for pro-gun propaganda and a villain that is a caricature of Hillary Clinton complete with email and Benghazi scandals. I guess if you voted for Trump you'll like the political context. I'm a Canadian, I didn't vote in the last US election.
Like the others, Jake is facing his reality and his desires. Lot's of action, feasible plot line, if you like action books you will like Miller's Jake Noble series. If you are a stickler for spelling and grammar you might want to stick to hard paper books, but if like me, you are just looking for an interesting, escape book, then this is for you. I am glad I did not have to wait between books. Couldn't put it down. I was happy, but less than thrilled, with book 1 of this series.
Books about and for Deaf Children - Series by Royal Fireworks Press
Book 2 is an entirely different story! This was fast paced with plenty of action and I thought the writing style was much improved also. Jake has become a particular favorite of hearing-impaired students, and he has found a following among his peers in the mainstream as well. Also an iBook from iTunes. A twelve-year-old violin virtuoso, David Rothman is an overnight success.
His future is laid out for him like a well-lit freeway. Written from David's perspective, the novel shows how an adolescent boy sets about coping with what he perceives as a devastating new condition. How will he communicate with his friends? What can he do about school? How does he deal with unexpected and possibly dangerous situations? What will his future be like? He grew up in the hearing world; as a child, he played the violin and went to concerts, movies, and Broadway shows.
But as an adult, one day he woke up to deafness, the result of a virus. At the age of forty-four, the severe hearing loss took me away from my job as a sixth-grade teacher. From that experience, I was inspired to write this story. If a person has a willingness to learn and an open mind to explore all possibilities, he can find a way to succeed. Ultimately, what he really needs to find is himself. Thal writes about familiar characters that I associate with from my own colorful reality as a deaf person. I was delighted that the main character, David, advanced his visual language skills; he practiced reading nonverbally from storybooks with a deaf preschooler who was learning English.
The book reminds the reader the importance of literacy for all deaf children. As for me, if I had the chance to read it when I began losing my hearing at the age of sixteen, it would have given me hope, comfort, and inspiration. Although the book is written for a young audience, I thought of several people I know who would really benefit from the emotional release the story provides. I loved all the characters and the uplifting tone as the main character, David, struggles through this life upheaval.
Simple statement of fact: How do any of us survive? For kids or adults, this is an appealing book for all. Learning American Sign Language. You are viewing Home -based Switch to school -based.
