Thanks for telling us about the problem. Return to Book Page. The Wolf Letters by Will Shaefer. An artefact from the dark ages - a wolf carved in jet black - is stolen from the archaeology department of St Matthew's College.
A man is murdered in an antique store. Historian George Haye translates two eighth-century documents for the investigating police, and is very soon nearly murdered himself. What is it about the documents?
Aren't they Southern England. Aren't they just letters from one Englishman to another? And why does the wolf from St Matthew's seem to be at the black heart of all the evil that unfolds around him? He must find the letters which lead him to the wolf, or he will die. But Haye will find something else.

House of Representatives' vote on legislation that will remove all wolves in the lower 48 states from the federal Endangered Species List and will open up wolf trophy hunting. Scientific studies and research confirm that allowing wolf killing does not necessarily help farmers prevent future wolf-livestock conflicts.
Killing wolves for livestock predation may actually increase the likelihood of additional livestock predation the following year. And speaking of science - a telephone survey asking for farmers to report their losses is influenced by their bias that wolves are the reasons for animals missing.
This is not scientific. We know animals die and get sick and they then can be eaten by wolves, but the wolf did not necessarily cause their deaths. We're glad the Herald included perspective on the cattle producers crying wolf: The numbers listed by the Minnesota DNR for our wolf population say nothing about the health and genetic diversity of the wolf population and much of the data is based on foot tracks in snow.
