The Military Park offers one of the best opportunities in the area for walking and active recreation VIcksburg National Military Park offers some of the best walking and hiking areas in eastern Mississippi. There are many options for scenic hikes and walks, as well as options for running, riding bicycles, walking your pets, and even pushing a stroller!
Entrance fees still apply to pedesterians, and must be paid when entering the park.
Many community members and visitors will choose to walk, run, or bicycle portions of the tour road. The Tour Road offers up to a 16 miles pedesterian experience, and allows for pedesterians to create walking loops that range in length from 3 miles to 16 miles. The tour road features a "walkers lane" on the left side of the road as a dedicated lane for non-motorized transportation.

Best of all, the Tour Road is open to pedesterians from sunrise to sunset. The road is only open to vehicles from 8am-5pm, leaving plenty of time in the morning and afternoon for a vehicle-free experience. This is a great option for anyone looking for a little exercise, or looking to explore the park from a different perspective. All of the important features and monuments on the battlefield can be viewed while walking Pets and strollers are welcome on the tour road.
Pets must be kept on a 6 ft or less leash at all times, and owners must pick up after their pets. Restrooms are available at the visitor center from 8am-6pm, and water is available all day in the parking lot. Then turned into grass abandonned railway bed , then dead ended. Parts of the trail were very nice, like the river and some of the trail going north around town.

Some of the trail need to be reset faced pretty badly. The far west start is a best- no parking and trail in neglect. I have not been on trail since It is still perfect from the resurfacing of new asphalt. I went from KCC circled around college down through CO Brown Stadium down along Wagner Drive which has had a lot work done, great breeze off the river, and waterfall, new Kayak launch area , new fishing pier, picnic tables, passed several port a johns, etc all the way downtown, circle around Under Ground Railroad and Dr. Best access to this short trail is from Victory Park.
The new hilly section up southeast from the park to the cemetery and through this park is the most shaded and scenic. The western portion is very peaceful but somewhat hard to find unless you follow the signs from downtown which has been a real mess due to repeated repaving of main street requiring M 99 detour. The trail is paved and in fairly good condition except through the cemetery gravel but easily manageable on a mountain bike. Rode the entire trail from Concord to Weatherwax Rd trail head plus the beautiful new 1 mile paved spur to Falling Waters Park.
Surface is in excellent condition, suitable for inline skating. Unlike a lot of rails-to-trails locations it has gentle curves to keep it interesting and outstanding detailed signage. It is completely rural and peaceful, very few houses even visible from trail, with vistas of several lakes and lots of wooded sections. Trail is mostly shaded, except where it runs on the causeway through Lime Lake. No access to drinking water directly on the trail. Entrance is free, several markers explain the history and there is an old-fashioned hand pump which produces fresh cold water, what a delight on a very hot day.
Also, the Amish people riding along the route were so nice, always a smile and a wave. Was in town for a MX race in Michigan. Had never been on this trail, we stopped in Goshen Friday and started there. Trail was nice, a few slight hills along the way. Many rest stops and bathrooms as well. The Krider Gardens along the way are very pretty.
Trail was quite busy with bikers, many Amish were riding back and forth as well. Would like to do the whole trail from Elkhart to the end, another time. Mile markers would be nice on the trail. The short street riding bike lanes need to be clean weekly. This was my first time riding this trail and boy am I glad I got the hardier frame and wider tires on the bike I just bought!legutel.com/includes/329/3.php

I was humbled by how remote it all felt, as I know this is a slice between a hustle and bustle of manufacturing and residential areas. But there is so much more unadulterated land in the in-between to make you feel secluded and connected back to nature. There are also many blind curves. Overall, it is an excellent workout and a majestic area of land for scenery, highlighting much of what makes Michigan just so amazing. I have lived so many other places across the country and now I bring my bike home to explore.
I only passed 3 people on my trip today on this trail, but the trail itself looked as though and was heavily evidenced as though it is being taken care of on a regular basis.

This is the closest trail to my home, but as I much prefer paved trails, I find myself driving an hour north to the White Pine and Musketawa trails, south to the Pumpkinvine, and east to Falling Waters. The Kal-Haven is a chore, but would be wonderful if paved. TrailLink is a free service provided by Rails-to-Trails Conservancy a non-profit and we need your support!
