It took me a while to get into it but once I did I liked it. I didn't realize that it was a non-liner series of vignettes but it actually really works. I would love to read more of Betty!
This was a first reads giveaway. I loved the intelligent, sexualized, powerful Betty and the characters surrounding her. The plot was excellent and the story moved I couldn't put it down. I am looking forward to the next book. View all 3 comments. Aug 04, Liz rated it really liked it. I have a new action heroine! Betty's personal life is a convoluted mess but she sure can handle herself in the dangerous world of espionage and terrorism. This book was a quick and easy read filled with lots of action, tangled scenarios and a touch of humor.
No doubt there are more adventures in her future and I am looking forward to them. I won a copy of this book in a Goodreads giveaway for this honest review. Won this book through a Goodreads giveaway. Right up my alley, the story is about an evil cabal, love, and feisty, horny undercover spies. Given all that, what's not to like? Well-written, the characters and storyline were compelling enough to keep me entertained. While I generally like a less disjointed approach to narrative, the style fit within the framework of the action-driven thriller-diller. I should mention that I actually laughed out loud more than a couple times.
Yes, this is unusual a Won this book through a Goodreads giveaway. Yes, this is unusual and that's why I'm mentioning it. The humor is quirky and tucked in unexpected places so watch out. If you like your sinister takeovers gripping and well-thought out, then Money - The Betty Chronicles by A. Mahler might just be the book for you. Mahler and Goodreads for making me feel like a winner! Jan 15, Harriett Trombatore rated it really liked it. This is a very interesting book beginning with a young couple planning to marry, meeting the other's families and living together and then switches to more of an espionage situation, with the young couple being involved with others and their families getting involved in illicit activities, etc.
The plot is a little hard to follow at times, but then seems to flow back together and connects. The ending leaves quite a bit to be desired as it seems to just "drop off", but apparently there is another This is a very interesting book beginning with a young couple planning to marry, meeting the other's families and living together and then switches to more of an espionage situation, with the young couple being involved with others and their families getting involved in illicit activities, etc. The ending leaves quite a bit to be desired as it seems to just "drop off", but apparently there is another volume which will pick up where this one leaves off.
It was a good read, but just not what I expected at the beginning of the book. I did finish it, however, as I dislike starting a book and not finishing it.
Keep up the good work AJ. View all 5 comments. The mysteries in Betty's life draw you into her world. You are always on the edge of your seat wanting to know what will be happening next - will she find love, will she complete her missions successfully, who can she trust, and does she concur her demons. I can't wait to see if any of my questions get answered in the next book. This book is a must read. Betty is a confident, brave, and tough lady that we wish we could be like.

Really enjoyed this story and since it was mainly located in Washington D. I knew everywhere they were and have been to a lot of those places myself. I really enjoyed the love story as well with Betty and Tom and hope they get back together, but guess I will have to read the next story to find out. I want to be Betty! She is flawed and guilty of all the things we face in real life. But she deals with it and comes out fighting! Can't wait to read more of her espionage adventures, personal conflicts, and mishaps in her love life in the next book. I read this book last summer over one weekend.
I enjoyed the different characters as they developed. The plot had some great twists and turns. I look forward to reading other adventure in the future. There is more action in this installment picking up from the cliffhanger in "Money". Betty is again globe trotting to thwart the influence of the enemies of Control. The relationship between the characters is front and center as Betty's existence is challenged by characters that we thought were her friends and family.
The plot involves a rogue mission to locate and rescue a fellow covert agent. It is difficult to go into more detail about the plot as it necessitates identifying the bad guys that we thought were good guys and gals which spoils the suspense. Readers seeking a story with a lot of action and intrigue will be rewarded. Many of Betty's family, friends and sex partners populate all three books in the Betty Chronicles. As the trilogy continues there is a considerable amount of mystery regarding the relationship between Betty, her friends, her friends' families, Betty's family and nearly every major character in the books.
No one is quite who they seem to be. Each of the books focuses on the World Order Cabal nemesis of Control, Betty's employer manipulating money, power and control. The books are stand alone reads but it is helpful to read them in order. Unresolved issues in earlier installments are addressed in the later books although Mahler does not tie up all of the loose ends. The books are densely plotted and move at a fast pace. Just as James Bond has his M, Betty has a nerd that provides her with the most sophisticated tradecraft of spying. I don't think tradecraft is a word but you get the gist of what I mean.
In between the espionage assignments, Mahler develops the background of both Control and the Work Order Cabal. There are some elements of historical fiction as Allan Dulles has a significant role in the formation of Control Just as Steig Larsson in the "Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" series may have spent a little too much time on the background of Nazis and their evil deeds, Mahler may be guilty of pontificating a bit much about the evils of greed, thirst for power and the irresponsibility of international banking systems.
The final book in the trilogy is "Control". In this book we are privy to the inner workings of World Order Cabal and the perversions of its primary players. Many characters who had prominent roles in "Money" re-emerge to prominence in "Control". Few of the characters in the trilogy strive for the moral high ground so we are not disappointed when things do not work out well for them.
Mysterious relationships between the characters are defined. The good guys are identified and most of the bad guys are killed. The last half of the book has the energy of a high scoring, tightly contested NBA game. It is not too much of a spoiler to disclose that Betty does survive and well placed sources hint that she may return soon in 4th book.
RIYL a fast paced series with a lot of action, mysterious relationships, and characters as sinister as Golfinger, Dr. The books are hard to put down and as soon as one book is finished you will find yourself picking up the next book in the trilogy.

Mahler keeps the reader fully engaged and guessing all the way through this fast paced trilogy. These novels are populated with people who are beautiful, rich and very dangerous. There are plenty of thrills and cool spy gadgets, but there is also a very dark undercurrent, uncertainty rules the day, and Mahler reveals what just might be the most lethal weapon in the 21st century. These books are also a masterwork of timing and logistics, Mahlers research for the novels is meticulous.
